From impressionism to expressionism

Only few women belonged to the avant-garde around 1900. Paula Modersohn-Becker (1841-1901) was one of the first representatives of early expressionism. She was an art teacher for a long time and regularly traveled to Paris, where she became acquainted with the avant-garde of the time. This had a major influence on her work.
