PINO PAPÉL (1956)
(1956) Cuba - Venezuela
The Cuban painter Pino Papél is originally from Havana, Cuba, where he had his art education. Via Caracas he ended up in Miami and New York.
His fascination for surrealism and especially the works of Salvador Dalí took him to Barcelona and Figueras. This was the beginning of many travels in Europe and later all over the world. Eventually this has been leading to his ‘Swinging Cities’ series.
Papél exhibited among others in Shanghai, Barcelona, Istanbul, Göteborg, London, Bangkok, Havana and Lisbon.
Most of his colorful and remarkable ‘moving’ cities have large sizes. In his paintings Papél wants to express the deeper feeling of a city, or, as he calls it himself: 'El Aura de la Ciudad' (‘The Aura of the City’).
